Nothing says “Wow, your mama loves you!” at Casa de Katie like waffles and hot maple syrup on a school day. It’s become a Valentine’s Day tradition: I get up early, heat the syrup and start the waffles, and then wake up the childrens. Something I wonder if I made waffles every morning if they would get ready that lightningfast! and without whining, but something tells me the magic would wear off.
Bee was sad for a moment, after she had happily hugged and kissed me and wished me a very squeaky Happy Valentine’s Day. “Mama…but I don’t have a mug,” she lamented. Last year the girls picked out Valentine’s mugs. Gracie chose a happy blue whale, and Bee a GINORMOUS heart mug…the latter of which, unfortunately met a rather untimely demise. I pretended not to hear her. Because guess what was waiting for them? Brand new Valentine’s mugs, filled with chocolate milk. And maybe a small heart filled with candy.
Oh, if only every morning could be as happy as Valentine’s mornings! Bee was so! happy! to have a new mug, and Gracie was thrilled that her chocolates had a picture of a hound dog that looked just like her teacher’s hound, Lucy. (We’re easy to please, here at Casa de Katie.)
Happy Valentine’s Day, folks! I hope your day is like the one I’m having – the kind where you wouldn’t change a thing.
