Love lends a hand.

I was so lucky this week. I got a peek into my Love Thursday post on Saturday afternoon. I kept an open mind and an open eye for something loving and sweet that could top the tender moment I witnessed but nothing even came close. Wanna know what it was?

We have suffered through stormy day after stormy day after stormy day this week. Thankfully, none of the storms have been that severe and the rain has (mostly) waited until we were safely ensconced at school and work or home before it came pouring down. On Saturday, the storms tried to end with a thundering crescendo. The foundation nearly shook, the thunder was so loud. And the rain? We got five inches. In one day! (Is it wrong of me to wish it had been snow? Foiled again!)

The worst of the storms started while Bee was napping. It was rolicking along pretty at a pretty good pace when she woke up. And you know what? She wasn’t having anything to do with it. Uh-uh. She asked to go back to sleep (which I turned down. Letting a storm spoil bedtime later?). She asked to go home in a sad and pitiful voice. “Sweetie, you already are home,” I reminded her. “I go school?” she asked, upping the pitiful. “Sorry, baby,” I answered, “It’s storming at school, too.” Then the poor thing laid down on the furthest end of the couch from the windows and buried her face in the pillows. She wouldn’t even let me hold her! That’s when it happened. Gracie walked over to her and sat next to her. She rubbed Bee’s back and murmured comforting words. “It’s okay, Bee. It’s just thunder! It can’t hurt you. Here, I’ll cover your ears for you.” And her word was as good as gold. I was so moved watching one of my little munchkins care so tenderly for the other. You don’t get to see such powerful displays of love like that every day. Maybe, just maybe, I’m doing something right.

Happy Love Thursday, everyone! I hope someone in your life lends you a hand in such a sweet and unexpected way today.
